John McCain Holding The Shield

Admiral John S. McCain Jr. served out his last active duty as Commander in Chief Pacific 1968-1972 amidst the high tensions of the Vietnam War. On July 29th 1977 Admiral John S. McCain Jr. went before a senate committee and said these words . . .” It is time for our country to stop cowering, cringing and to act the part of a great and powerful nation with a positive and constructive program. We have nothing to be ashamed of. Nor need we apologize for all the foreign aid and technical assistance we have given to other nations.” (Admiral John S. McCain, Jr.) Now at the time he was speaking to the senate in regards to possibly giving away the Panama Canal. He obviously, as did most military leaders at the time, disagreed with that possibility strongly. His words however, shed light on things for us. Present day included. His words hold much truth. His sense of duty beckons honor. Admiral McCain’s ability to instill strong moral principles, integrity and astounding ability to determine right from wrong in his son, call for even more praise. No doubt passed on from his father, also a four star Admiral in the Navy. ( Vice Admiral John S. McCain, USN (center)with his son, Commander John S. McCain, Jr., on board a U.S. Navy ship (probably USS Proteus, AS-19) in Tokyo Bay, circa 2 September 1945. Admiral McCain died a few days after this photo was taken. Note Japanese submarine in background, just to left of Admiral McCain.) The fact that he was able to do so has been clear to many of us for nearly three decades. If there were any doubt, his son’s appearance last night on Hannity and Colmes surely put it to rest. John S. McCain III spent a full hour on the program speaking with Sean Hannity. Throughout this hour one thing was very clear. John S. McCain III feels strongly that we have a duty to protect what we have inherited, and to spread the message to the rest of the world. McCain said “I feel confident that I can inspire people to believe they have a sense of duty greater than their own self interest.” I know I have heard him make that statement before. I am sure many of you have as well. I have been lucky enough to speak with McCain on occasion. I have also attended countless meetings, town-hall events, rally events etc. I can tell you first hand that it is near impossible to attend one of McCain’s events or speak with the man and not come away knowing full well you have a debt to pay to your country and are obligated to do so and just as eager. There are many issues at play in this election. I feel strongly the aforementioned is one of the most important. Too many simply take for granted their duty to their Nation. Too many feel they are owed something. Too many feel they ought not contribute unless they see how they can benefit personally. The Democrats play deeply on these feelings. They pick and poke and take advantage of them at nearly every turn. Alexis de Tocqueville wrote in "Democracy in America," “Government would cover the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd." The subtle despotism of democracy, he said, "does not destroy, but it prevents existence, it does not tyrannize but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which government is the shepherd." De Tocqueville must have had some Nostradamus qualities because I am fairly certain over 150 years ago he laid out both Barack Hussein Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton’s plan for America. I admit our Nation has suffered. Our shield is tarnished. My friends we are still America. The USA, we are still the greatest hope for ourselves and the world at large. I would like to share something with you. It is something once read will make sense and ring true to you no matter your age or affiliation. This appeared in the “London Daily Mail” in July of 1976. It was written by Ferdinand Mount. Mr. Mount said “What the world needs now are more Americans. The U.S. is the 1st Nation on earth deliberately dedicated to letting people choose what they want and giving them a chance to get it. For all it’s terrible faults, in one sense America still is the last, best hope of mankind, because it spells out so vividly the kind of happiness which most people actually want, regardless of what they are told they ought to want. We criticize, copy, patronize, idolize, insult but we never doubt that the U.S. has a unique position in the history of human hopes. For it is the only nation founded solely on a moral dream. A part of our own future is tied up in it and the greatest of all the gifts the Americans have given us is hope.” I think I would like to have met Mr. Ferdinand Mount. I gather he and I would have got along famously. John S McCain III embodies those ideals. McCain embodies those thoughts Ferdinand expressed, those sentiments and that great optimistic sense of hope. John McCain is America. I stated earlier on that I was concerned that there are generations of Americans that do not understand their duty or debt to their country. That being said, we are still without a doubt a proud people, with every reason to be so. There are people in power in our Nation, people vying for power that feel that pride in ones country is inappropriate, or out of fashion. These are the same people that want to have Tea with ruthless dictators. If we give in to these forces, if we let these liberals and their agenda manipulate our government, ruin our place in the world, destroy our allies faith in us, destroy the faith in those that may seek us out in need, destroy the fiber and moral of our honorable military men and women . . . then we surely are allowing a minority of misguided ideologues to write off those hopes and dreams of America. What would be the result of that, world wide my friends? The thought makes me shudder. John McCain understands there are areas of this world that require our presence, our attention, our assistance and our monitoring. They are absolutely essential to preserving any type of world peace. John McCain will send a message to those Democrats. John McCain will send a message to the world my friends. There will be no abandonment of our ideals. There will be no abandonment of our morals. There will be no abandonment of our pride, and there will be no abandonment of friends by America. John McCain will shine the tarnish from our shield, hold it up to the world and make sure every Nation on earth knows why it’s there.
